People against Poverty is blessed to have a wonderful group of staff, volunteers, and freelance or pro bono contributors who collectively enable the charity to deliver its work.

Chief Executive Officer

Belinda has been working in the charity sector for over 25 years. Initially she founded and ran a local volunteering charity, providing practical support (gardening, painting and decorating) for those on low incomes. From here she has gone on to hold leadership roles in a variety of national and international charities, setting up new initiatives and teams, developing innovative programmes in the UK and abroad.

She brings to People Against Poverty her passion for working collaboratively with those experiencing poverty, disadvantage and discrimination to facilitate transformational change in the lives of their communities.

When not working she loves spending time with her family, training for triathlons, singing in choirs, and growing wonky veg!

Development Lead

Karen has been involved with People against Poverty for over 14 years in various capacities. She has a background in communications and business development across a career that has included working at senior levels in banking, travel and tourism, hospitality, sport and security sectors, as well as serving on the management board for a national safety and security charity. Having followed the growth of People against Poverty and its projects, she is delighted to bring her development skills and experience to support the next phase of the charity’s evolution, engaging with individual and business supporters (old and new) to help more people out of poverty and towards self-sufficiency. Outside of work, Karen is a keen hockey player, runner and swimmer, and loves a really good Sunday lunch with family that includes veg from her allotment, on which she is experiencing “on the job learning” in permaculture!

Project Management

After over 30 years experience of working in the charity sector, Jo now works as an independent freelancer, providing support to organisations, such as project and event management, governance support, comms, and publications. Jo has been helping the charity since March 2023, delivering a number of key projects to enable us to continuously improve our operations. She lives in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire with her husband, Mark.

Volunteer Mission Ambassador and Co-founder

After a life changing visit to Romania in 2004 Val left her family and friends in Kent to move to Wiltshire to support the then fledgling charity. Following 18 years as CEO, during which time she successfully expanded and developed the charity and its work, Val is now enjoying her well earned retirement whilst continuing to support the charity as volunteer Mission Ambassador.

In her spare time Val loves to visit the cinema and local fringe theatre.  She is also currently in training as a volunteer member for her local canal trust helping crew one of the many boating trips that take place. Being with her grandchildren is something that keeps Val on the ball.
