Stuart Brown

Chair of Trustees

Stuart Brown retired in the summer of 2022 having been an international development consultant since 1988 and a freelancer since 1999. He was widely respected in the international consulting community for his expertise in policy implementation planning, particularly in regard to environmental policies (including river basin management) and related aspects of international trade agreements. His professional experience covered forty-four countries, from Chile to Mongolia and Vietnam. He speaks four languages fluently, and can make himself understood in another fifteen! In his spare time Stuart composes music that has been performed as far afield as the USA, Indonesia and Australia.

Andrew Fisher

Trustee/Charity Treasurer

Andrew qualified as a Chartered Accountant with a big four firm in 1987. His experience since qualifying includes spells with Price Waterhouse Coopers and in senior accounting roles with commercial organisations large and small.

He ran his own practice for many years before co-founding Alanbrookes Limited Chartered Accountants and Registered Auditor in 2008, which now has offices in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset. Amongst its many areas of work, Alanbrookes is one of the country’s leading firms in supplying accounting, tax, audit and advisory services to Co-operatives, including many community based renewable energy companies.

The two things that give Andrew most enjoyment in his work are helping clients achieve their business and personal objectives, and defending the powerless against the mighty.

Dick Beath

Trustee/Company Secretary

Dick qualified as a chartered certified accountant after a 6-year carer’s role, and a progressive career as a British Army Infantry officer. Dick is currently Chief Financial Officer at the American Museum and Gardens in Bath.

Dick has been involved together with his family in helping overseas on a number of humanitarian projects. He gives direct support to schools’ charities in South Sudan and Tanzania. Dick is very pleased to be a Trustee of People against Poverty with which he has been associated since 2007.

Ruby Adeleye

Trustee

Ruby is a real estate solicitor based at a Birmingham law firm. She is committed to delivering excellent client service, taking time to understand the specific needs of the clients and businesses she represents. She is passionate about building trusted relationships and delivering practical, tailored advice.
Outside of her legal practice, Ruby is actively involved in her community. She volunteers with a Birmingham-based Christian charity that supports female on-street sex workers in the city, and serves at her church on both the worship and kids’ teams. She also enjoys keeping active through the gym, pilates, hiking and running and explores creativity through calligraphy and painting. Ruby loves to travel and hopes to see as much of the world as possible.

Kiki Alo

Trustee

Kiki is a qualified lawyer specialising in advising on matters related to financial markets regulation, asset management, digital assets, payment services, mergers and acquisitions in the financial sector, and environmental, governance and social (ESG) measures. Separately, she advises on matters related to special educational needs, education and civil law on a pro-bono basis.
Outside of work, she’s an active member of her community having co-managed a foodbank for 5 years, and enjoys playing tennis, hiking, cycling, going to concerts, watching films, eating and travelling.
Angela De Souza

Angela De Souza

Trustee

Angela De Souza is an experienced senior leader and Non-Executive Director with a background spanning strategic leadership, organisational development, governance, communications and business growth. She has held senior leadership roles in complex organisations and now works with boards and leadership teams to provide strategic insight, constructive challenge and support for sustainable growth and positive impact.

Angela is passionate about using her experience to support organisations that make a meaningful difference to people and communities. She is particularly interested in social impact, education, poverty reduction and creating opportunities for people to thrive.

Alongside her trustee role with People against Poverty, Angela is developing a portfolio of non-executive and advisory roles. She is also a professional speaker and mentor, supporting people to build confidence, overcome limiting beliefs and achieve their potential.

Outside work, Angela enjoys playing the piano, running and walking, travelling and spending time with her family.
