The land seemed plentiful but the resources were not available to capitalize on the advantages of the rich, local soil.
Our function was to help resource the community until they could reclaim their land back off the corporations and begin to benefit from their own cultivation. We hoped to reverse the lethargy, alcoholism, and despair that their situation had created.
In 2018 we evaluated the progress made. The community now had animal houses, barns, a large polytunnel, a maize mill, a tractor and machinery. They have been breeding pigs and chickens and the numbers were growing fast. Orders for animals are already being placed by the local community.
Costel, the farm manager and project leader has worked tirelessly with his fellow villagers and believes that not only can they become self-sustaining but also make a profit to support future development. The PaP team will be supporting him with the business planning.
We are delighted that 2019 has been the transformation for the farm. Costel the project leader now has official documentation to enable him to sell outside of the community the livestock and produce grown. He has also helped purchase land for the community so that they can grow their own produce and installed two further extremely large polytunnels. This is a community thinking big!
The farm has provided jobs for the whole community, young and old have eagerly tended the polytunnels and have produced a magnificent harvest to be shared amongst the community
For 2020 we need to complete the farmhouse which will enable Costel and his family to move into giving the farm full security 24:7. This is of the utmost urgency as people begin to hear of the farm, more and more people visit and it is a risk that it is open to theft of machinery and the like. Lets do this and bring a whole community from poverty to fully self sustainability.
