We would like to say a big thank you to Good News Church in Melksham who raised £200 for our tractor appeal in over the festive period. Good News Church have been wonderful supporters and one its pastor Sharon Firth is a member of Business against Poverty with her business Inspire Away.
Our Micro Farm in Romania is now successfully producing crops year round for the whole community. The next step is to purchase a tractor.
There are many things that can’t be done without machinery; at the moment they are only able to use horses which require care & have to be looked after & they are not able to use these horses to plough for cereals, meaning that it must all be done by hand. The Tractor will not be used just for the Micro Farm. Like the Mill it will be for the benefit of the whole community. It will be used for sustainable wood transportation from woodland on peoples land, it will also help people grow food on their own land. Many of the gardens are full of roots & it’s impossible for the horses to get rid of them, but a tractor would get them out easily. Seeding with horses is very manual & difficult to do in line, also they are not able to water or herbicide with horses. A tractor would make this possible & easy. People from Uncesti have between 10 & 15 hectares in their gardens and many own 10 or 15 more in extra land. There is a lot of un-worked land which will benefit the Micro Farm tremendously & transportation if they are able to get the tools to work it.
