Tributes have poured in for our dear friend and former CEO of People against Poverty, Val Huxley, who so sadly passed away on 9 May following a courageous battle against cancer.

We are also glad to have been able to help The Business Exchange bring together these tributes for their website and publication.

As a team we joined Bill and the family and Val’s many friends in a packed church (West Wilts Vineyard in Trowbridge) on 30 May to give thanks for her life. In true spirit the service was filled with both tears and laughter as many gave tribute for the enormous contribution she brought to the world – as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, colleague and also of course for the huge commitment and dedication she invested in developing this charity.

Val joined Robin Hood Ministries (as the charity was called then) in 2005 as Office Manager. She quickly demonstrated her energy, passion and vision to help grow the charity, first setting up internal systems and procedures, and then starting the child sponsorship project. When the founder of RHM left the charity in 2007, Val took over as CEO, rebranded it as People against Poverty, and together with husband Bill, developed the work further, including creating a gateway for businesses to invest in the charity and become a business of purpose, called Business against Poverty.

Over 15 years as CEO, until she handed over the baton to Belinda in 2022, Val put her heart and soul into helping people find a way out of poverty, galvanising supporters to join in the mission, raising £1000s of pounds and changing 1000s of lives. She then continued to work with the charity first as Mission Ambassador and then Mission Volunteer until October 2024 when both she and Bill stepped down from their respective roles (Bill from his trustee role). We were delighted to be able to honour them both for their remarkable contribution with a presentation at our Annual Celebration event that month. Even in her last few months Val continued to support and champion the work of People against Poverty, including funding a borehole well in India in her name (see below) earlier this year.

Annual Celebration 2024

We loved her dearly, and she will be sorely missed, but, with your support, People against Poverty will carry on delivering and growing the wide-ranging and life-changing work that Val cared so passionately about – helping people to find a pathway out of poverty.

If you would like to add your tribute or memories to the carousel, please email info@peopleagainstpoverty.com and we will share as many as we can.
